Windsor sits at the southwestern tip of Ontario on the south bank of the Detroit River, facing the Detroit skyline across an international shipping channel that drains Lake St. Clair into Lake Erie.

Inside city limits, the Ojibway Prairie Complex protects roughly 350 hectares of tallgrass prairie, oak savanna, and Carolinian forest across five connected parks — Ojibway Park, Black Oak Heritage Park, Spring Garden ANSI, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park, and the 105-hectare Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve — and Parks Canada is establishing the Ojibway National Urban Park in partnership with the City of Windsor, the Province of Ontario, Caldwell First Nation, and Walpole Island First Nation. The continuous Riverfront Park system runs more than 5 km from the Ambassador Bridge east to Hiram Walker, with the Odette Sculpture Park threaded along it; west of downtown, Olde Sandwich Towne (founded 1797) holds Sandwich First Baptist Church, the Duff-Baby House (1798), and Mackenzie Hall (1855).
