Chatham-
Chatham-Kent is a single-tier municipality on the alluvial plain between Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie, drained by the Thames and Sydenham rivers and built around the towns of Chatham, Wallaceburg, Tilbury, Ridgetown, Blenheim, and the Lake Erie fishing village of Erieau.
Rondeau Provincial Park — the second oldest provincial park in Ontario — protects one of the largest remaining old-growth Carolinian forests in Canada, with 334 recorded bird species and the country's largest breeding population of the endangered Prothonotary Warbler. The Chatham-Kent Waterfront Trail runs 16 km of gravel along Lake Erie from Wheatley to Erieau, and a 63 km northern extension along the Thames and St.
Clair Rivers (added 2016) is partly co-designated Trans Canada Trail. North Buxton is the historic heart of the 1849 Elgin Settlement — Buxton National Historic Site — founded by Reverend William King and 15 formerly enslaved settlers on a 4,680-hectare tract of cleared Carolinian forest.
Chatham-Kent sits within the traditional territory of Bkejwanong (Walpole Island First Nation). A short drive from Windsor and Sarnia, a few hours from Toronto on the major southwestern Ontario highway corridor.

Rondeau Provincial Park carries a 7-trail network of more than 30 km through old-growth Carolinian forest — the 1.2 km Tulip Tree Trail and 1.5 km Spicebush Trail loop through the park's interior, and the 8 km South Point Trail runs flat along the Lake Erie south shore while the 8 km Harrison Trail is the longest single-direction route. Wheatley Provincial Park's trails thread a Carolinian-creek network around Boosey, Middle, and Two Creeks. Inside Chatham, Thames Grove Conservation Area at 34 Kingsway Drive runs a riverside walk; the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority also maintains the Merlin and McGeachy Pond trails to the south.

Wheatley Provincial Park, in the southwest corner of the municipality, runs four named campgrounds — Boosey Creek, Highlands, Middle Creek, and Two Creeks — through Carolinian forest along Lake Erie creek mouths; Highlands carries 44 electrical and 31 non-electrical sites with a comfort station and laundry. The Erieau Marsh Trail crosses a 2012 pedestrian and cycling bridge to Lagoon Road for a Rondeau Bay loop. Off-trail, the rural concession-road grid across the alluvial plain carries flat road and e-bike touring between the lake and the Thames.

The Running Creek / Snye / Sydenham water trail loops out of Crother's Park in Wallaceburg through flat river paddling and back — described by Chatham-Kent Trails as an outstanding example of flatwater river paddling. The Thames River through Chatham carries a similar character, and Rondeau Bay's sheltered shoreline north of the Erieau peninsula is canoe, kayak, and SUP water with the open Lake Erie shore a short portage away.

Erieau Marina sits on the peninsula between Lake Erie and Rondeau Bay with 100 guest docks, three launch ramps, and dockage for power and sail to 100 ft and 12 ft draft — the home harbour of the Erieau Yacht Club. North across the municipality, Mitchell's Bay opens onto Lake St. Clair with public launches into one of Canada's most-fished warmwater systems. Lake Erie storms can move quickly; small-craft routings should track the marine forecast.
