Niagara Falls is the City of Niagara Falls — the Canadian-side city wrapped around the Horseshoe, American and Bridal Veil falls, the Niagara Gorge below them, the Whirlpool, the Niagara Glen and the Niagara Parkway from Chippawa to Queenston. The Niagara Parks Commission, an Ontario government agency founded in 1885, manages the 55–56 km Parkway corridor end-to-end alongside the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve, the Whirlpool grounds, Dufferin Islands and the falls overlooks at Table Rock.
The Niagara Glen is the only legal access to the gorge floor, with about 4 km of rugged Carolinian-forest trails (Terrace, Cobblestone, Trillium, Whirlpool) and the principal sanctioned bouldering venue in Southern Ontario at the base. The Niagara River Recreation Trail runs the Parkway in four sections from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake, threading the falls themselves and the Whirlpool.
Below the falls, the lower Niagara stays open year-round — the Whirlpool drift water and Devils Hole reach hold the iconic Ontario steelhead and chinook salmon fishery, and the river corridor was the first North American site dedicated as a Globally Significant Important Bird Area, in December 1996. About an hour and a half from Toronto via the Queen Elizabeth Way; the land is within the Mississaugas of the Credit's 1781 Treaty at Niagara.

Hiking
The Niagara Glen Nature Reserve is the only legal access to the Niagara Gorge floor, with about 4 km of rugged Carolinian-forest trails — Terrace, Cobblestone, Trillium and Whirlpool — descending from the Nature Centre at 3050 Niagara Parkway. The Bruce Trail's Niagara Section traverses the Glen between the Whirlpool and the Nature Centre as part of the 80.5 km Queenston → Grimsby leg. Dufferin Islands south of Table Rock adds an easy paved-and-gravel loop through a 10-acre nature park.
