Cycling.

The Niagara River Recreation Trail leaves Fort Erie at the head of the Niagara River and runs paved and non-motorized along the Niagara Parkway in four sections to Niagara-on-the-Lake. The City of Niagara Falls leg threads the falls themselves and the Whirlpool, with the gorge below the path almost the entire way.

Niagara Parks Commission cites a 56 km figure across the corridor.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The four sections are NOTL → Queenston, Queenston → Whirlpool Aero Car, Chippawa → Black Creek, and Black Creek → Fort Erie — the Queenston → Whirlpool Aero Car leg is the canonical Niagara Falls segment, with the falls overlooks at Table Rock as the pivot point. The trail is paved, flat, and managed end-to-end by Niagara Parks.

Best season is May through October; the Parkway corridor stays driveable year-round but the Recreation Trail itself is unmaintained for snow, so spring and fall are the riding shoulders. Some sections share alignment with the Niagara Parkway road shoulder; speed and direction signage applies.

The Niagara Falls leg is the most-recognized stretch of the entire corridor.
