Pelham.

Pelham sits on the Fonthill Kame, the highest point of land in the Niagara Region — a glacial sand-and-gravel hill that lifts the village of Fonthill above the wine-country plain to the north. The town runs through five historic hamlets — Fonthill, Fenwick, Ridgeville, Effingham, and North Pelham — across rolling Carolinian country south of the Niagara Escarpment.
Most of Short Hills Provincial Park, the largest provincial park in the Niagara Region (660.55 ha, more than 23 km of trails through Carolinian forest along the Twelve Mile Creek headwaters), sits inside Pelham, with trailhead access on Pelham Road, Roland Road, and Cataract Road. The Niagara Bruce Trail Club routes the Bruce Trail through the park, and the Steve Bauer Trail — a rail-trail along the former Niagara, St.
Catharines and Toronto commuter line — runs south from Fonthill toward Welland. North of Fonthill, the Comfort Maple on Metler Road is widely held to be one of the oldest sugar maples in Canada.
Pelham is a short drive from St. Catharines and Welland and a few hours from the GTA via the major Niagara highway corridor.

Hiking
Short Hills Provincial Park is the largest provincial park in the Niagara Region — 660.55 hectares of Carolinian forest along the Twelve Mile Creek headwaters, with more than 23 km of marked trails. The Friends of Short Hills Park steward seven named trails (Swayze Falls, Black Walnut, Terrace Creek, Scarlet Tanager, Hemlock Valley, Very Berry, and the barrier-free Palaeozoic Path) plus a section of the Bruce Trail crossing the park, with parking lots reached via Pelham Road, Roland Road, and Cataract Road. St. John's Conservation Area sits on the Pelham–Thorold border with four short loops (Tulip Tree, Sassafras, Horseshoe, St. John's Ridge).

The Comfort Maple at 636 Metler Road is a short walk from a small parking area to a fenced-off heritage sugar maple — a destination walk in itself. Inside Short Hills Provincial Park, the Palaeozoic Path is a hard-surface barrier-free loop suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The Steve Bauer Trail's rail-trail section is walkable for non-cyclists, running south through Fonthill along the former NS&T corridor toward Welland. Pelham Town Square in central Fonthill anchors the village heritage walk through the kame-summit core.

Short Hills Provincial Park's Carolinian forest carries pawpaw and sweet chestnut alongside resident white-tailed deer, coyote, and migrating songbirds — the park is one of the larger Carolinian-zone walking inventories on the Niagara Peninsula. The Comfort Maple Conservation Area is both a heritage stop and a nature-interpretation site for sugar-maple ecology. Lathrop Nature Preserve's John Nemy Trail rounds out the local nature-discovery network with a short interpretive walk.

Pelham is a designated Bicycle Friendly Community at the silver award level. The Steve Bauer Trail — named for Pelham-raised cyclist Steve Bauer, the 1984 Olympic silver medalist — is the rail-trail anchor, following the former Niagara, St. Catharines and Toronto commuter line south from Fonthill toward Welland. The Town of Pelham's road network combines Niagara Escarpment slopes with quiet rural concession roads through Fonthill, Fenwick, Ridgeville, and Effingham, and a documented Bauer Cycle road loop links the hamlets through the kame summit.

The Comfort Maple at Comfort Maple Conservation Area, North Pelham, is widely held to be one of the oldest sugar maples in Canada — designated a heritage tree under the Ontario Heritage Act in 2000 and stewarded by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority since 1961. The Fonthill Kame, the highest point of land in the Niagara Region, sits beneath the village of Fonthill and is recognized as a Niagara Geopark geosite. Pelham's five historic hamlets — Fonthill, Fenwick, Ridgeville, Effingham, and North Pelham — anchor the town's pre-Confederation rural settlement pattern.
