Walking & Strolling.

The Table Rock viewing complex at the Horseshoe Falls overlook anchors the Niagara Parkway promenade. From there the river-edge walking path runs north along the Parkway toward the Whirlpool, the Sir Adam Beck overlooks and the Niagara Glen, and south along the upper Niagara toward Dufferin Islands and Chippawa.

Niagara Parks manages the entire corridor end-to-end; the Parkway promenade is the canonical urban riverside walk in the Niagara region.

Walking & Strolling in Niagara Falls
01 — What to know

The brief.

The full Parkway corridor runs 55–56 km between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario but the walking surface is split between the dedicated Niagara River Recreation Trail and the Parkway road-shoulder promenade — the Recreation Trail is paved non-motorized and is the preferred pedestrian surface. Table Rock and the falls overlooks are open year-round; Dufferin Islands' loop trail is paved/gravel with footbridges and connects ten acres of small islands south of Table Rock, with the Winter Festival of Lights nature-themed installations from November through January.

Best season for walking is year-round — the Parkway corridor stays driveable and the falls overlooks open year-round, though winter visitors should note gorge wind off the lower river.
