Centre Wellington.

Centre Wellington is a Wellington County township anchored by the twin limestone mill towns of Fergus and Elora at the confluence of the Grand and Irvine rivers. The Grand River cuts a 22-metre limestone canyon — the Elora Gorge — through the township centre, with Elora Gorge Conservation Area on the canyon rim and the Elora Quarry Conservation Area, a former limestone quarry now a swimming hole, just downstream.

Upstream of Fergus, Belwood Lake reservoir backs up behind the Shand Dam — completed in 1942 as the first multi-purpose dam in Canada — and the cold-water releases feed one of the better-known tailwater brown trout fisheries in southern Ontario from Shand Dam down to West Montrose. The Elora Cataract Trailway runs 47 kilometres east from Elora to Cataract for cycling and walking, the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games has run annually since 1946, and the Wellington County Museum and Archives sits in the 1877 House of Industry between the two towns as a National Historic Site.

Most of it sits a short drive north of Guelph.
