Whitewater Region is a rural Renfrew County township anchored by the village of Cobden on Muskrat Lake and the hamlets of Beachburg and Foresters Falls, fronting a long stretch of the Ottawa River across from Quebec. Between Foresters Falls and Westmeath, the river splits around named islands and drops through the Rocher Fendu / McCoy's Chute whitewater stretch — a Class III–IV run that carries named rapids including Garvin's, Lorne (Bus Eater), McCoy's Chute, the Sevens, Iron Ring, and Coliseum.

Commercial whitewater rafting on this stretch has run since the early 1970s and the Sevens play wave has drawn freestyle kayakers from across North America for decades. Inland, Muskrat Lake at Cobden anchors village waterfront — the lake is associated with Champlain's 1613 voyage up the Ottawa Valley and the Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village in Cobden interprets that heritage layer.

The Algonquin Trail / Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (former CPR rail line) passes through the township for cyclists and snowmobilers, and the non-operating Westmeath Provincial Park supplies a sand-beach and dune day-use stretch on the Ottawa River. Cobden and Beachburg sit about 90 minutes from downtown Ottawa via the Trans-Canada Highway corridor.
