01 — What to know

The brief.

Big Creek is the documented flagship — flat current, sheltered marsh, and seasonal waterfowl that include the Big Creek tundra swan staging in February and March. Canadian Wildlife Service visitor protocols apply within the National Wildlife Area; access points are limited and posted.

Long Point Inner Bay's protected side, behind the peninsula, opens onto sheltered SUP and kayak water with the open Lake Erie shore a portage away — Lake Erie weather can shift quickly even on the Inner Bay side. The Lynn River through Port Dover is a short urban flatwater run with launches at the river mouth.

Best season is May through September.
