Hiking.

Copeland Forest Resources Management Area's 1,800 hectares of provincial Crown forest span the Oro-Medonte / Springwater boundary on the Oro Moraine — a year-round multi-use trail block that anchors hiking inside the township. Hardwood Ski and Bike's summer trail network on the same moraine and the Ganaraska Trail's Barrie-to-Orillia section threading across the township add depth for hikers chaining longer days.

Hiking in Oro-Medonte
01 — What to know

The brief.

Hiking in Oro-Medonte is concentrated on the Oro Moraine rather than along the Lake Simcoe shoreline. Copeland Forest is the largest single tract, with multi-use trails open year-round; the eastern portion sits inside Oro-Medonte.

Hardwood Ski and Bike's summer trail network is purpose-built and accessible via the resort's trail-pass system. The Simcoe County Forest tracts within Oro-Medonte add quieter day-use options through working county forest.

The Ganaraska Trail's Barrie-to-Orillia section runs through the township but parts of the route cross adjacent municipalities; consult the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association maps for current routing. Best season is May through October; the rail-trail and Lake Simcoe shoreline parks add accessible flat walking the rest of the year when snow allows.
