The Merrickville lockstation greenspace at Locks 21–23 sits at the centre of the village beside the 1832 Blockhouse, with the Merrickville Ruins — an industrial-era mill site — a short walk away between the canal and the river. The Township's Historic Properties walks pull together 1–5 km loops along paved village streets through the 19th-century stone-and-brick Victorian core, all radiating from Blockhouse Park.

Most of the central walking concentrates on the lockstation greenspace and the heritage downtown — flat, paved or compacted, walkable year-round. The Merrickville Ruins on St.
Lawrence Street form a 0.5 km loop through industrial-era mill and factory remnants. The Story Trail integrates a 1 km children's picture-book route into the Woodland-Toboggan Hill complex.
The lockstation itself is walkable along the lock gates from May through October during navigation season; outside the season, the greenspace remains open. The Township's Historic Properties walks are unsigned street routes — pick up a Township map at the Blockhouse for the village heritage tour.
