Walking & Strolling.

The Waterfront Pathway runs 8 km along Lake Ontario from King Street West past Confederation Basin and Macdonald Park to Emma Martin Park, threading the limestone old-town downtown core and connecting to the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. The walk passes Murney Tower NHS at Macdonald Park, Shoal Tower in the harbour basin, and Confederation Park at the southern terminus of the Rideau Trail — three of the city's UNESCO-inscribed heritage anchors, all on a flat downtown loop.

Walking & Strolling in Kingston
01 — What to know

The brief.

Most of the central Kingston walking is flat, paved or boardwalked, and concentrated on the downtown waterfront ribbon between King Street West and Emma Martin Park. The Waterfront Pathway is open year-round; central downtown is comfortable May through October.

Across the LaSalle Causeway from downtown, Fort Frederick stands at the Royal Military College on Point Frederick and Fort Henry NHS rises on Point Henry above the harbour mouth — the four UNESCO-inscribed Martello structures inside the city are all walkable from downtown. Kingston City Hall (1844) is on Confederation Park; the Bellevue House NHS villa sits a short distance west and is walkable from Macdonald Park.
