Gravenhurst is a node on the OFSC District 7 (North Simcoe & Muskoka) snowmobile trail system, where District 7's volunteer member clubs maintain roughly 1,800 km of snowmobile trail across the district. The Trans Canada Trail (Bethune section) corridor through town carries winter snowshoeing on the same rail-trail base used for hiking, walking, and groomed classic XC.
The brief.
Two distinct winter platforms work here. The TCT (Bethune section) handles non-motorized winter use — snowshoeing on the same trail base used for summer walking and rail-trail cycling, free, with multi-use yielding rules in effect alongside the groomed classic-XC corridor.
The OFSC District 7 system handles motorized snowmobiling — Gravenhurst is a node on the southern Muskoka spine, and District 7's volunteer clubs maintain the corridors. OFSC permits are required for snowmobile use on the trail system.
Reliable Shield snow cover holds mid-December into early March; lake-effect snow off Georgian Bay often boosts winter totals.
