Hiking.

Bluewater's hiking is split between municipal trails clustered around Bayfield and conservation-area loops managed by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority. The Woodland Trail's 5 km loop off David Street is the longest single municipal route; the Sawmill Trail at the end of Saw Mill Road and the Varna Nature Trails behind the Stanley Community Centre fill out shorter family-friendly options through Bayfield-area woods.

Hiking in Bluewater
01 — What to know

The brief.

Distances are short — every named trail in Bluewater is under 5 km, with most loops between 1 and 2 km. Terrain is flat to gently rolling Huron County woods and farmland; there is no significant elevation gain.

The Bannockburn 400-metre boardwalk and the Varna Taylor Trail (1 km hard-packed gravel) are the accessible options. Ausable Bayfield conservation areas operate sunrise to sunset, seven days a week unless posted otherwise.

The municipal trails around Bayfield are walkable year-round; the conservation-area trails are best April through November. Stair access on the Sawmill Trail's bridges and the Varna Mavis Trail can be steep in places.
