Whitchurch-Stouffville sits squarely on the Oak Ridges Moraine — the kettle-and-kame morainal ridge that forms the headwaters divide between Lake Ontario (Rouge River) and Lake Simcoe (East Holland, Vivian Creek) drainages — in northern York Region between Markham, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, and Uxbridge. Bruce's Mill Conservation Area, on Stouffville Road, is the town's TRCA anchor: the annual Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival every spring, the Snow Tube Park each winter, hiking trails, and the Treetop Trekking aerial adventure park.

North and east of the urban core, the York Regional Forest — a network of forest tracts York Region manages for public hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain biking — runs through Hollidge, Eldred King Woodlands (the principal cross-country mountain bike tract in York Region), Bendor and Graves, and the Porritt tracts. The Oak Ridges Trail Association's 270+ km moraine-spine hiking trail crosses the town west-to-east, threading the LSRCA-managed Whitchurch Conservation Area in the town's north end.
