Paddling — Flatwater.
Port Whitby Marina at the foot of Brock Street South is the Town-managed launch into Whitby Bay — a sheltered northeast-facing inlet that opens onto Lake Ontario. The bay carries calmer water than the open lake, and Cranberry Marsh and the lower Lynde Creek mouth at Lynde Shores Conservation Area give a quieter alternative through the wetland for kayak, canoe, and stand-up paddleboard.
The brief.
Two distinct flatwater options inside the town: Whitby Bay from Port Whitby Marina (sheltered open-bay paddling, exposed once you cross the harbour mouth into Lake Ontario) and the Lynde Creek mouth / Cranberry Marsh from Lynde Shores (sheltered marsh paddling through coastal wetland). The bay is calmest in early morning before the lake breeze fills in; afternoon winds make for choppier conditions and a longer return.
Best season is May through October; the marina closes for the off-season. The Town's harbour page is the authoritative reference for launch hours, transient docking, and parking.
