Sailing & Boating.
Severn Sound's Tay Reach is sheltered Georgian Bay water with three village marina/launch communities along the Tay shoreline — Victoria Harbour, Port McNicoll, and Waubaushene. Port McNicoll's harbour was the Great Lakes terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway steamship line and the longtime home dock of SS Keewatin until the ship's relocation to Kingston in 2023.
The brief.
The Tay Reach lies at the southeast end of Georgian Bay's recreational boating cluster and offers sheltered anchorages along the shoreline and open-water cruising into the bay. May through October is the prevailing boating season.
Fuel docks, marina services, and launch ramps are concentrated at the three lakeshore villages — Victoria Harbour and Port McNicoll on the east-central reach and Waubaushene at the eastern end. Severn Sound is shared with Tiny, Midland, and Penetanguishene to the west and Township of Severn / Georgian Bay Township to the north and east; the broader sound is heavily trafficked by recreational vessels from late June through Labour Day.
