Nature & Discovery.

The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre stewards 3,000 acres of provincially significant Class 1 wetland on the Wye River, adjacent to Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. The Friends of Wye Marsh manage year-round boardwalks, an observation tower, and a resident trumpeter swan flock, with seasonal canoe rentals through summer and indoor and outdoor interpretive programming covering waterfowl, marsh birds, beaver, and turtles.

Nature & Discovery in Midland
01 — What to know

The brief.

The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre runs year-round but the strongest birding windows are the spring and fall migrations (April–May and August–October) and the resident trumpeter swans through the year. Admission is required at the Wildlife Centre; the trail and boardwalk network and the observation tower are accessed through the centre.

Severn Sound — Midland Bay, Penetang Bay, Sturgeon Bay, and Hog Bay — supports waterfowl staging at the south Georgian Bay shoreline; the Severn Sound Environmental Association reports state-of-the-bay data and water quality. In winter, the same Wye Marsh trail network grooms for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing — covered under those parent activities.
