Hiking.

The Marsh Boardwalk loops out into the cattail wetland of Point Pelee on a low elevated walk through the heart of a Ramsar-designated marsh. North of the boardwalk, the Botham Tree Trail (one to two hours) winds through Carolinian forest — sycamore, hackberry, sassafras — characteristic of the southernmost mainland strip of Canada.

Both feed into the spine of the peninsula that ends at the Tip.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The walking inside Point Pelee is exceptional for ecology rather than for terrain or distance — the park totals 12 km of trails plus the 9 km roadway, all flat, much of it boardwalk or paved. Hillman Marsh Conservation Area's 5 km of trails, ten minutes north on Mersea Road, give a comparable shorebird and marsh experience under ERCA management; note the west cell and surrounding trail are currently closed for invasive Hydrilla eradication.

Seacliff Park's Lake Erie boardwalk runs year-round and connects to the Leamington Marina. May for warblers, September for monarchs, June through August for warmest hiking; winter is walkable but quieter.
