Walking & Strolling.
The Galt Heritage Conservation District protects a limestone commercial core along Main Street and Water Street in downtown Galt, with the Mill Race Trail running along the Grand River through Soper Park and the Cambridge Sculpture Garden — a riverfront sculpture park anchored at the south end of downtown. Across the city, Riverside Park in Preston anchors the Speed–Grand confluence, and downtown Hespeler's former textile-mill district extends the heritage geography north along the Speed.
The brief.
Most of the Cambridge walking content is concentrated in three downtown cores — Galt on the Grand, Preston on the Speed, and Hespeler on the upper Speed — each retaining a walkable 19th-century street grid from the pre-1973-amalgamation mill towns. Galt holds the city-designated Heritage Conservation District, the Idea Exchange Old Post Office heritage library, and the Cambridge Sculpture Garden; Preston centres on King Street and Riverside Park; Hespeler on the Hespeler Mill core.
Best window is May through October, but the Mill Race Trail and downtown grids stay walkable through most winters.
